Summary of Summer Hiring Needs:
Christian Berets Summer Camps offer week long camping experiences for adults and children (ages 10 to 110) with special needs. Counselors are expected to have basic leadership skills and integrity in everything they do. They should be compassionate, enthusiastic, flexible, and patient while working with campers and staff during all camp sessions. One week of pre-camp training is required.
Summer Camp Counselor Job Description (must be at least 17 years old)
Responsibilities:
- Read, understand, and follow the Counselor Training Manual
- Complete and submit Camp paperwork or forms as needed
- Receive instruction daily. Report directly to Executive Director and/or Program Director
- Agree to and then follow all Camp Rules & Guidelines, especially Anti-Fraternization Statement
- Attend all scheduled staff meetings and devotions
- Be quick to ask questions and seek help from other staff when needed
- Be quick to cooperate and assist fellow staff (counselors, kitchen crew, nurses, volunteers)
- Communicate clearly with and follow instructions from Camp Nurses/medical team
- Demonstrate creativity, energy, vision, and self-initiative
- Demonstrate basic leadership skills and compassion
- Establish and nurture relationships with guests
- Participate in and help develop leadership and ministry teams:
- Program: Worship, Puppets, and Drama
- Activity Stations: Crafts, Nature, and Recreation
- Prioritize daily care of guests at all times (24/7)
- Stay focused and involved in all Camp-related activities
- Help with a variety of needs on bus transportation days:
- Greeters (greet & direct guests, parents, care providers; help with name-tags; take guests to buses).
- Baggers (carry luggage from cars to buses and then load it on the buses)
- Taggers (mark luggage with guests’ names)
- Sitters (stay on the buses to supervise and care for guests as they board)
- Direct parents and care providers to the Camp Nurse's table to check-in medications
- Troubleshoot and resolve Camp-related situations as appropriate
- Any other responsibilities as assigned by the Executive Director or Program Director


Counselor-in-Training Job Description
Qualifications:
- Be at least a freshman in high school
- Have good interpersonal skills and the ability to make wise decisions
- Agree to lead by example and share the Christian faith (See Statement of Faith on website)
- Read and understand the Summer Camps Training Manual
Responsibilities:
- Monday morning of each camp session, arrive by 7:45am at Life Connection Church in Modesto, CA.
- Friday bus returns from camp to Modesto location by 3pm. Staff wait for all campers to be picked up.
- Staff must provide their own transportation to and from the Modesto bus location (unless otherwise discussed/arranged with Executive Director at time of hire).
- Assist with bus check-in procedures (pick-up and drop-off) as assigned.
Demonstrate creativity, and take the initiative to spend time actively engaging with campers. Utilize camp facilities and natural surroundings to encourage campers with activities. Establish and nurture positive relationships with campers and other staff. Participate in ministry & activity stations, including chapel, drama, crafts, recreation, and campfire. Prioritize needs of campers and follow individual care plans with diligence. Any other responsibilities as assigned by supervisors.
CPR - All summer camp staff must have current First Aid training and CPR Certification. Take an online course or in-person course. You can turn in a receipt for reimbursement of CPR class fees.
